In the match played at the Education City Stadium, Morocco defeated Spain to reach the quarter-finals for the first time and knocked the former world champions out of the mega event.
The match of the Super 16 stage of the event witnessed a sensational match between Spain and Morocco, where Spain adopted an aggressive strategy from the start of the match, but the Moroccan defense players did not give Spain a chance to score, both teams. Despite attacking each other's goal post, they could not score a goal within the allotted time.
After that both the teams were given extra time but both the teams failed to score goals despite their desperate efforts. Both teams were awarded five penalties to decide the match.
